How to Update Your Home without Renovating

So, you aren’t ready to start a full-on renovation on your home, but you want a new, fresh space? This is where interior design becomes so important. There are a ton of design changes you can make to completely change the look and feel of your home without any demo! We recently completed a redesign of a home in Uptown New Orleans that didn’t include any major remodeling that perfectly showcases how a few simple updates can completely change a space.

Paint: A fresh coat of paint is the easiest way to change the tone of a room. In our Laurel Street project, we got rid of the old yellow cream paint and replaced it with an inviting off white, complimented by bold blues and greens.

Different rooms serve different purposes, so choose colors that complement the intended mood. For example, serene blues and greens work well in bedrooms and bathrooms, creating a peaceful retreat, while warmer tones like yellows and oranges can energize living and dining areas.

Wallpaper: Another simple way to add personality to a room is with a distinctive wallpaper. Not only adding color to a space, a wallpaper is where your personality can really shine. And the possibilities are endless! Whatever your favorite things are, there’s a wallpaper for that!

Trim: Adding decorative trim to your walls is another simple, yet impactful way to elevate your space. We were able to utilize trim to break up the large walls in our Laurel project and create the illusion of paneling, while also adding character and depth.

Lighting: Old light fixtures can make your home feel very dated. Simply replacing pendants and chandeliers can go a long way in elevating the design of your home. Replacing old, basic fixtures is another place you can let personality shine in your home.

By focusing on these smaller updates, you can completely transform the look and feel of your home without the time, cost, and stress of a full renovation. Whether you choose to refresh with paint, add statement wallpaper, enhance with trim, or elevate with new lighting, these simple changes can bring new life and personality to your space. It’s all about working with what you have and getting creative. So, take a step back, look at your home, and imagine the possibilities.
